What is that???

Two cedar handled paring knives in the making

Here are a couple paring knife blades (lots of work left to finish shaping them) in a piece of rough cut cedar.

I tried a new technique that worked very well.  I drilled two holes for the tangs (the width of the steel thickness).  Then, I heated up the tangs and pushed them into the hole to burn out a cavity just the right size for the tang.  Boy did burning cedar make the garage smell good.  It reminded me of my first wood burning kit 🙂

Now I need to finish the blades, cut the cedar to handle shapes, assemble and finish.  I’ll keep you posted.
